Three Tips to Remember during National Safety Month

Although demanding deadlines can make it difficult to take the time to recognize hazards around you, wear proper safety protection and avoid fatigue, practicing the necessary precautions is more than just a recommendation. According to the National Safety Council (NSC), a worker is injured on the job, totaling a staggering 4.6 million jobsite injuries a year.

Klein-equipped professionals get the job done wherever it is needed, including in high-risk environments such as on or near high-voltages or at height. Specifically, the installation, maintenance and repair and construction industries are noted within the top five occupations for the highest numbers of jobsite injuries resulting in days away from work.

At ÌÒ×ÓÊÓƵ, safety remains a priority on and off the jobsite, day-in and day-out. In conjunction with NSC, we’re continuing the celebration . National Safety Month is observed annually in June to raise awareness for and reduce the leading causes of death on the job, at home and on the road.

From wearing the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) to worksite wellness and more, here are a few key reminders to help keep everyone in our ÌÒ×ÓÊÓƵ family safe.

  2. Fatal fatigue. Your body is your most valuable tool. It might save time to skip a meal or sleep less, but it is important to take care of yourself and your body to limit overexertion. NSC’s identifies overexertion as the leading cause of worksite injuries, accounting for more than a third of all injuries. Avoid experiencing fatigue on the job by paying attention to your own needs, and looking out for your brothers and sisters on the job. Contractors, remember your role in promoting worksite wellness. Encourage your team to take short, frequent breaks to stay fueled and hydrated, as well as get sufficient sleep afterhours.
  3. Tool tune-up. Keeping up with tool, work van and machinery maintenance keeps professionals safe, and prepared, for the day’s work. Poorly functioning equipment can cause more than just a headache and extra work. Faulty tools drastically increase the risk of injuries. The unpredictability of damaged, old or malfunctioning machinery can cause serious hazards, despite proper use.
