As states have slowly begun to reopen over the last several weeks, and restrictions have started lifting, many people are trying to get back to their regular routines. While some companies have given employees the option to work from home indefinitely, most of us are starting to head back into the job and get back into the normal swing of things. With this, however, comes fear from many people that a second wave of COVID-19 could come later in the year.

May 29 is National Heat Awareness Day in the United States. Created by the National Weather Service, this holiday was created to encourage employers and workers to recognize the warning signs of heat illness and keep workers safe. Throughout the summer months every year, there are thousands of illnesses and many deaths of workers due to extreme heat or humid conditions. Today, we’re looking at what you can do to keep yourself safe when you’re outside on the jobsite during the summer months.

While it may seem like 2020 just started, we’re almost through May and summer is right around the corner. With summer comes higher temperatures outside, which means your home electrical and HVAC systems working harder to keep you cool inside. There are a few basic steps that you can take now, before the temperatures start rising, to ensure your home is in tip-top shape and will keep you cool and your electrical bills down all summer long.

If you’ve been following us on social media over the last few weeks, you’ve probably noticed our new Stay Fit series, where we offer up tips on how to stay in job-ready shape if your social distancing routine includes staying at home. While this series offers up specific exercises you can do to mimic the muscles you would regularly be working on the jobsite, there are many other things you can easily do to make sure you’re staying both mentally and physically healthy during this time.

People across the world have celebrated Earth Day every April 22 since 1970. The 2020 celebration was extra special, as we recognized 50 years of highlighting humans’ relationship with the planet and the corresponding effects. Even though current circumstances prevented many public celebrations, this holiday always presents a unique opportunity for us to step back and look at how trade professionals contribute to sustainability efforts.

This Saturday, April 18, is National Lineman Appreciation Day. Having been a career field for well over 100 years now, it’s only fitting that the over 115,000 lineworkers in the US have a day to celebrate the hard work they put in for the estimated 155,000,000 electrical customers across the country.
